Until You Come Home

You heard the call
Promised to give your all
I know it’s what you had to do
I was afraid
Putting off the plans we made
But I’m still very proud of you
A desert wind
Swept you half-a-world away
Now all I can do
Is kneel down to pray and

I’ll keep the light on
The front porch brightly-burnin’
Throughout the day
And every night for you
I’ll let it shine
So I won’t feel alone
I’ll keep it burnin’ baby
Until the day you come home

By early light
My thoughts start a-wandering
From morning chores to troubled shores
Then late at night
I dream you’re walking down the road
It wakes me up, as you reach the door
Only heaven knows
What you’re going through
But here at home’s where
I promise you
I’ll keep the light on
The front porch brightly-burnin’
Throughout the day
And every night for you
I’ll let it shine
So I won’t feel alone
I’ll keep it burnin’ baby
Until the day you come home

Never-ending days
And nights I wish that would
What’s a soldier’s bride supposed to do?
It’s been almost a year
I wish that you were here
Today our little girl turned two

We’ll keep the light on
The front porch brightly-burnin’
Throughout the day
And every night for you
We’ll let it shine
So we won’t feel alone
We’ll keep it burnin’ baby
Until the day you come home
